It's difficult to make change happen on our own. The key to real progressive change is the power of WE. Together, we can shape our future. The Education and Community Team is committed to engaging the residents of Aurora to create a common vision for a more inclusive city and to turn that vision into reality. We are present at community events to collaborate and support local initiatives. Looking toward the future, we recognize that the young people currently in our schools are tomorrow's local leaders, so we will stand with them to amplify their voices and affirm their rights. Come see what WE can do together.
IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE RIGHTS
We come from families of immigrants - when we look upon ourselves, we can see all the generations before us. They are resilient, independent, resourceful, and above all, powerful. Generations of immigrants and refugees have contributed to this country via fundamental change, innovative ideas, economic bounty, and more. The vitriol and fear of "others" needs to be addressed and shut down. Our dream for Aurora is for it to be a united "One Aurora" where immigrants and refugees can collectively show everyone just how much we belong - Aurora is our home. There appears to be a long, tumultuous road to get there, but our Immigrants & Refugee Rights Team is ready and unapologetically willing to lead the fight. Will you join us? Be on the right side of history, help us pave the way to change anti-immigrant & refugee rhetoric. You can do it. You have a voice.
LGBTQ AND ALLIANCE
The LGBTQ team focuses on issues of importance to LGBTQ Aurorans and their allies. In addition to the Aurora Pride Parade, we’re concerned about equality in education, employment and housing, poverty, military service, and mental health. We also explore the ways these issues intersect with others, including but not limited to ethnicity, gender, immigration status, and ability.
