Fridge Maintenance

This fridge is safety-checked at least once a day and cleaned at least once a week. Any item that doesn’t comply with the fridge rules will be removed.

We have volunteers that are food safety handling certified and PCQI (Preventative Controls Qualified Individual) certified.


Our fridge is bolted to the base of the shelter so it is safely secured.

Dairy & dairy-free milk

Raw meat (freezer only)

Nut butters*

Non-alcoholic beverages

Lunch meats (store-bought, in sealed package with a use-by date)

Baby formula (expiry date labeled)

Baby food pouches

Coffee and/or Tea

Granola bars

Other pantry staples

All donated items can be dropped off at the fridge ANY TIME - no need to contact us. However, we ask that donors keep things tidy and clean up any messes they see or make (see fridge rules).

AIMING TO BUILD STRONGER COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE MUTUAL AID PRACTICE OF FOOD SHARING

FRIDGE ETIQUETTE

Community fridges provide easy access to fresh food with few barriers and restrictions.

  1. Please wear a mask, ensure your hands are clean, and wear food-safe gloves when handling food.
  2. Avoid unnecessary contact with food items to prevent contamination.
  3. If you notice food has gone bad or packaging has been compromised, please throw it away.
  4. Check use-by dates on food products before taking.
  5. Do not consume prepared food seven days after bringing it home.
  6. Please put new donations towards the back of the shelves so that food gets eaten in the order it is donated.
  7. Do not leave donations if the fridge or pantry are FULL.
  8. If you notice or cause a spill, please clean up after yourself.
  9. If you notice the fridge needs maintenance or is above 41 degrees Fahrenheit (not cooling), please get in touch via email at info@indivisibleaurora.org or fridge@indivisibleaurora.org

RESTAURANT DONATIONS

Any food donated from a local restaurant should be sealed and accompanied by a purchased or prepared-by date. Any restaurant prepared food will be discarded after 7 days. Remember! No leftovers, please.

HOME-COOKED FOOD

If you wish to cook food for the community fridge, please make sure to following these rules:

  1. PUT MEALS IN A SEALED CONTAINER
  2. LABEL INGREDIENTS CLEARLY
  3. INCLUDE A PREPARED-BY DATE
  4. IDEALLY, WEAR FOOD-SAFE GLOVES WHEN PREPARING FOOD

Any homemade meals not taken from the fridge will be disposed of after seven days.

Any homemade foods that do not follow our rules will be disposed of immediately.


MAKE A MONETARY DONATION

Help us continue to make this project sustainable. Your donation provides funds for additional community fridges or the purchase of fridge related food items when necessary.
